A new river shuttle service for the Île-de-France region

Launch of a container river shuttle between Gennevilliers and Bonneuil-sur-Marne

Paris Terminal and Terminaux de Seine are launching a call for expressions of interest (AMI) for the establishment of a river container transport service between Gennevilliers and Bonneuil-sur-Marne for import/export. This project aims to develop an alternative logistics solution to road transport, using the river to streamline the movement of goods in the Île-de-France region.

A container shuttle to connect the north and south of the Île-de-France region

The planned service is based on a regular river shuttle for import/export containers between :

  • Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine), a major 25-hectare logistics platform operated by Paris Terminal, located 10 km north-west of Paris
  • Bonneuil-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne), a strategic site operated by Terminaux de Seine for logistics services in the south of the Île-de-France region

Initially, the shuttle will offer :

  • A capacity of 54 EVP per rotation
  • One rotation per week, with the potential to increase to three rotations depending on demand

Greater flexibility for shippers and logistics providers

The river shuttle between Gennevilliers and Bonneuil also offers direct operational benefits for economic players :

  • 14 days' free parking for containers passing through Bonneuil
  • Flexibility in managing warehouse entries and exits, thanks to more regular flows
  • Reduced dependence on road transport, which is often restricted in densely populated areas
  • More reliable delivery times, less exposed to traffic hazards
  • CO2 emissions reduced by a factor of 3 compared to road transport

This river-based alternative thus secures logistics chains while optimising transport organisation.

The river, a strategic lever for logistics in the Paris region

With this AMI, Paris Terminal and Terminaux de Seine reaffirm the strategic role of river transport in serving the Paris region.

By connecting Gennevilliers and Bonneuil-sur-Marne by waterway, the project illustrates the river's capacity to :

  • Effectively connect major logistics hubs
  • Offer concrete modal shift solutions
  • Support the evolution of logistics practices towards more sustainable models
